About California Immigration Project (CIP): CIP is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit legal services organization based in Sacramento,
CA and providing pro bono community outreach and education, public policy advocacy, and legal assistance and
representation for immigration communities in California. CIP’s mission is to empower immigrant communities by
providing free, high-quality legal services, education, and community advocacy across California. Our guiding principle

CIP’s immigration practice provides full-scope direct representation and limited-scope legal assistance to low-income
clients in their affirmative and defensive immigration cases. We represent individuals and families with their affirmative
applications for immigration relief, including: family-based visa petitions, U visas, T visas, VAWA, naturalization, DACA,
and asylum. We also represent clients in their removal proceedings, preparing cases for relief including: asylum,
withholding of removal, and CAT, cancellation of removal, bond, and post-conviction relief. Additionally, we engage in
extensive community education throughout Sacramento and the state to equip underserved communities with
information about their rights and recent developments in immigration law and policy.
Position:
Summer 2026 Law Student Clerkship
California Immigration Project (CIP) is recruiting for a law student clerk for this upcoming summer. This clerkship position
will be based in Sacramento, CA. The student clerk will have the opportunity to work across our three program areas –
Immigrants’ Rights (affirmative immigration work), Removal Defense, and Healthy Equity. A summer law student clerk
can expect to gain practical experience working directly with clients to assist CIP advocates with full scope and limited
scope case work. Assignments may include, but are not limited to, conducting client intakes, assisting with community
education and outreach, completing research and writing on legal topics, and participating in shadowing and training
opportunities. The specific duties and responsibilities will be tailored to the student clerk’s interests and needs of the CIP
team. All work will be done under the supervision of a CIP attorney.
Requirements and Qualifications:
The summer clerkship position is full-time, 37.5 hours per week for 10 weeks, beginning on May 26, 2026. CIP will work
with selected applicants to secure full funding for this position. We offer a flexible summer work schedule to
accommodate any personal needs or travel plans. Hybrid or remote work is possible.
Applicants should have completed their first year of law school. They must possess a passion for social justice and
immigrants’ rights, and sensitivity to working with low-income immigrants. Special consideration will be given to
students who are fluent in Spanish.
